Turn your CV into a portfolio website

Your CV. Your photo. Your choice of color. Create a website that presents your work clearly.

Your CV + optional photo

Your portfolio

Give your work a home online.

  • Your projects and publications
  • Your experience and education
  • Your choice of color

How to use it

  1. Open ChatGPT and attach your CV or resume. Add a clear portrait if you want your photo on the website.
  2. Copy the full prompt from this page, paste it into the same chat, and send it.
  3. When ChatGPT asks which color you want, reply with your choice. Let it build, then review your website.

Requires Sites access in ChatGPT. A photo is optional.

The full prompt

Use Sites to turn my attached CV or resume into a professional portfolio website. Follow the specific layout below rather than choosing a different design.

My preferences
- Preferred accent color: [Enter a color, such as blue, green, purple, burgundy, or teal]
- Public contact email: [Optional. Leave blank to omit]
- Additional professional links: [Optional. Add links not already in my CV]

Use my name and professional details from my CV. If I leave the accent color unspecified, ask me which color I want before building. Omit other blank fields and never display bracketed placeholders.

Layout and visual design
Create an elegant, editorial-style portfolio with a white background, generous spacing, large serif headings, and clean sans-serif body text.

Keep this structure and section order:

1. Top navigation
Use a slim, sticky navigation bar with a small circular initials mark and my name on the left. Add links to Projects, Publications, and Experience where those sections exist. Include a professional contact link if provided.

2. Introduction
On a computer, use a two-column layout:
- Left: my name in large serif typography, my professional or academic focus, and a short first-person introduction.
- Right: my portrait in a tall frame with an arched top and softly rounded bottom corners.
- Beneath the introduction, include an Explore my work button and, if privacy checks pass, a Download CV button.

If I attach a portrait, use it without changing my appearance or stretching it. If I do not attach one, use an attractive initials panel in the same position. Do not generate a person or search for my photo online.

3. Background summary
Add a slim, divided row highlighting up to three relevant facts from my CV, such as my degree, field, or institution. Do not invent statistics or achievements.

4. Selected projects
Use a dark section in a deep shade of my chosen color. Arrange project cards in two columns on computers and one column on phones.

Each card should show the project title, category, short description, and an Explore project button. Clicking it should open a detail panel with my contribution, tools, and documented results. Include project links only when supplied.

5. Publications
Use a white section with publications arranged as clean rows separated by thin lines. Show the year, title, publication venue, and authors where available. Make supplied publication links clickable. Clearly distinguish preprints from published articles.

6. Experience and education
Use a lightly tinted background and two columns on computers:
- Left: experience displayed as a vertical timeline.
- Right: education entries followed by a skills panel.

7. Recognition and community
Show awards in a compact card grid, followed by leadership and volunteering entries.

8. Closing section
Finish with a lightly tinted contact section containing supplied professional links, followed by a simple footer with my name.

Apply my chosen accent color to buttons, highlighted text, initials, and small visual details. Use darker and lighter shades of that color for section backgrounds, while maintaining readable contrast. Keep the layout consistent rather than changing its structure to match the color.

On phones, stack the columns, keep navigation usable, and prevent text, images, or buttons from being cut off.

Content and accuracy
Use only information in my attachments and preferences. Omit sections that my CV does not support and remove their navigation links.

Write clear, natural text. Do not invent qualifications, achievements, statistics, project details, publications, or links. Preserve dates and distinguish ongoing work from completed work.

Privacy
Do not display my phone number, home address, date of birth, identification numbers, or references' contact details. Display an email only if I explicitly enter it in the public contact email field above.

Include a Download CV button only if you can create a separate copy with private details permanently removed. Verify that those details cannot be recovered through text extraction or embedded links. Otherwise, omit the button and explain why. Leave my original attachment unchanged.

Build and delivery
Build the actual website using Sites, not just an outline or design suggestion. Check that it builds successfully, navigation and project detail panels work, and images and downloads are present.

Give me a private website link for review. Do not make it public without my approval.

If Sites or private hosting is unavailable in this chat, explain the limitation and what I need to do next. Do not invent a working link or claim the website is hosted when it is not.

Before you use the result

  • Check names, dates, links and every factual claim against your original material.
  • Keep private contact details out of anything you publish.
  • Edit the draft so it reflects your experience and intended audience.
