Make your AI stop writing like AI
Give ChatGPT or Claude reusable writing instructions that keep your facts, meaning, and personality.

Your writing rulebook
Keep your facts. Keep your voice.
- A prompt for any chat
- Instructions you can save
- A downloadable Claude skill
The quickest method
- Open ChatGPT or Claude.
- Copy the full prompt and paste it into a new conversation.
- Replace [Paste your text here] with your draft, then send it.
- Read the result and verify every fact before using it.
This method works even when you do not have access to Projects, Custom Instructions, or Skills.

Optional: save the shorter instructions so you do not need to paste them each time. Keep any existing preferences you still want. These instructions guide the AI; they do not guarantee perfect results.
ChatGPT
Use Custom Instructions for all chats
- Open Settings. On web or desktop, choose Personalization. On iOS or Android, look for Customize ChatGPT.
- Open the Custom Instructions field and turn Enable customization on.
- Add the shorter instructions below without removing preferences you still need. If the combined text exceeds the field limit, use a Project instead.
- Save or apply your changes. Ask for your next email, post, or rewrite as usual.
Use a Project for selected work
- Create or open a writing Project from the sidebar.
- Open the Project menu (three dots), choose Project settings, and add the shorter instructions below to its instructions field.
- Save, then create your writing chats inside that Project.
Project instructions apply only inside that Project and override your global Custom Instructions. Menu labels may vary by app version.

Shorter humanize instructions
When you write or rewrite anything I may publish or send, make it sound natural, clear, specific, and human. Preserve my meaning, facts, tone, cultural context, and level of formality. Never invent information, sources, achievements, statistics, or personal experiences. Use plain, precise words and varied sentence lengths. Remove chatbot filler, inflated vocabulary, vague claims, repetition, promotional language, forced groups of three, false "from X to Y" ranges, and formulaic "not X, but Y" sentences. Do not use em dashes, curly quotation marks, decorative emojis, title-case headings, or bullets that begin with bold labels. Name sources when supplied. Remove or qualify unsupported claims. Keep useful personality, opinions, examples, and natural informal phrasing. Match the writing to its audience and purpose. Ask one short question only when missing context would materially change the result. Before responding, reread the draft and fix anything that still sounds generic or machine-written. Return only the finished text unless I ask for an explanation.
See the difference
An illustrative edit, not a live ChatGPT or Claude test. Both versions contain the same facts.
Before
I am writing to express my sincere interest in your research assistant role. During my final-year project, I utilized Excel to clean survey data and produced a comprehensive report of the findings. I am eager to leverage this experience to contribute to your team.
After
I am applying for your research assistant role. For my final-year project, I cleaned survey data in Excel and wrote a report of the findings. I would like to bring that experience to your team.
The edit cuts formal filler without adding qualifications or achievements. Use your own draft and keep only facts that are true for you.
Check that it worked
After a rewrite, check that it sounds like you and keeps the original facts. Formatting alone does not prove whether writing is human or AI-generated. Look for:
- Em dashes or curly quotation marks
- Bullets that begin with bold labels and colons
- Generic openings such as "Great question" or "Let's dive in"
- Unsupported claims, vague sources, or invented details
- Repeated words such as robust, seamless, pivotal, and landscape

The full humanize prompt
Rewrite the text I provide so it sounds natural, clear, specific, and human. Preserve my meaning, facts, tone, cultural context, and level of formality. Do not invent information, statistics, sources, achievements, or personal experiences. Follow these writing rules: - Use plain, precise language. - Vary sentence length and rhythm naturally. - Remove generic chatbot filler, inflated vocabulary, vague claims, unnecessary repetition, and promotional language. - Avoid forced groups of three, false "from X to Y" ranges, and formulaic "not X, but Y" sentences. - Do not use em dashes, curly quotation marks, decorative emojis, title-case headings, or bold labels inside bullet points. - Replace vague phrases such as "experts say" or "research shows" with the named source when one is provided. If no source is available, remove or qualify the claim. - Keep useful personality, strong opinions, concrete examples, and intentional informal phrasing when they fit. - Do not make professional writing childish, stiff, or bland. - Match the format to the purpose, such as an email, LinkedIn post, caption, application answer, academic explanation, or message. If the audience or purpose is essential and genuinely unclear, ask me one short question before rewriting. Otherwise, proceed without asking. Return only the finished rewritten text. Do not explain your changes unless I ask. Text to rewrite: [Paste your text here]
Use it responsibly
This setup improves clarity and voice. It does not guarantee that writing will pass an AI detector, and it should not be used to misrepresent AI-generated schoolwork as entirely your own. Follow your school or workplace rules when AI assistance must be disclosed.
Before you use the result
- Check names, dates, links and every factual claim against your original material.
- Keep private contact details out of anything you publish.
- Edit the draft so it reflects your experience and intended audience.
